  • Cold Stone Creamery

    14071 W. Bell Rd. Surprise

    623-584-1945

Phoenix diners who have never managed to master Starbucks' sizing system will find Cold Stone Creamery's similarly challenging; the ice-cream chain eschews small, medium, and large in favor of "Like It," "Love It," and "Gotta Have It" sizes. Once the portion is picked, patrons can concoct their own creations from super-premium ice cream flavors like vanilla, cake batter, chocolate, strawberry and coffee, plus a kaleidoscope of toppings: nuts, brownies, cookies, candy, and even chunks of pie crust. The Creamery's ice cream engineers will scoop your selections onto a frozen slab and deftly fold in the toppings, ensuring that you won't have to hunt very far with your spoon for another hunk of cookie dough. Voice Places has Cold Stone Creamery down cold.

  • Grabbagreen

7366 E. Shea Blvd. North Scottsdale

    480-991-8999

You'll find the brightly lit juice bar and kitchen adjacent to the infamous Amy's Baking Company, in a shopping center located on the northwest corner of 74th Street and Shea Boulevard. Grabbagreen's menu offers plenty of choices, as well as the option to create your own meal in nearly every category. Juices come in a variety of flavors. For more substantial fare, Grabbagreen offers grains-based bowls and five salads. All of the menu is gluten-free, so look for ingredients like brown rice, quinoa, and quinoa noodles. Each bowl also comes with a selection of fresh vegetables, often a protein, and a housemade sauce -- think chimichurri, creamy avocado, and Mediterranean pomegranate. Read our review.

  • Jamba Juice

3320 W. Bethany Home Rd., Ste E-106 West Phoenix

    602-864-0950

Sure, you could be virtuous and make a smoothie at home, but washing strawberry seeds out of the blender jar is a pain. Most people are more likely to head to one of the Phoenix outposts of Jamba Juice, a chain 750 locations strong that's got smoothie-making down to a science (or is it an art?). Jamba's variety of drinks blend fresh fruits and juices, like the Strawberry Surf Rider with strawberries and peaches, or the Orange Carrot Karma, which combines orange juice, carrots, mangos and bananas. Add a Protein, Energy or Probiotic boost to get extra nutrients for a post-workout refueling or even as a quick meal substitute. Finding your nearest Jamba Juice is a breeze on Voice Places.

  • Pita Jungle

    1001 N. 3rd Ave. #4 Central Phoenix

    602-258-7482

Where else can one find both an allergen chart and a nutritionist's bio on the menu, for those who are so health conscious they have to know what's in everything they eat? We love Pita Jungle for this, and for a whole lot more: its eclectic blend of fresh ingredients; creative way with wraps and salads; and especially its Pesto Pizza, made with fresh pesto, tomatoes, spinach, with feta cheese, mozzarella, and herbs. (We always add chicken, too; that's optional.) We wish it were true that life's a jungle, because we'd make ours Pita!
