  • Bar En Gril

110 S. Val Vista Dr. Gilbert

    480-539-0884

More casual sports bar than family dining environment, this former Native New Yorker in a Gilbert strip mall serves up satisfactory bar eats such as pizzas, wings, sandwiches, and salads amid the glow of numerous TVs in a spacious, sparse atmosphere. In addition to breakfast on Sundays, with offerings like breakfast pizzas and French toast, the kitchen stays open until midnight throughout the week. There are meaty wings slathered in sauce, pizzas with nice, crunchy crusts, and decent appetizers such as warm pretzel chunks. The food's not going to win any awards, but it'll do for game-time grub paired with a cold beer or two.

  • Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge

50 W. Jefferson St. Central Phoenix

    602-732-5490

"Upscale" and "bowling alley" aren't words that you often hear in the same sentence. Until Lucky Strike Lanes opened at CityScape, that is. This California-based chain isn't your typical bowling alley, full of church groups and old people smoking cigarettes in a dingy lounge. Nope, Lucky Strike is far more posh. A dozen lanes for rolling are outfitted with flat screens and plush couches. There are two full bars, three pool tables, free Wi-Fi, and of course, a full menu of upscale bar food. If you plan to visit on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to wait. Live DJs and exceptional service should make the time fly by, however.

  • Vintage 95

    95 W. Boston St. Chandler

    480-855-9463

Originally the first post office in Chandler in 1926, the building at 95 West Boston in Chandler’s historic downtown is now home to this cozy wine bar and eatery courtesy of Gavin Jacobs, a former bartender and manager at House of Tricks in Tempe. A lounge-worthy patio outside and an intimate interior featuring low lights, leather chairs, and a fireplace sets the scene for catching up with friends or getting a bit more familiar with one. And an affordable and discerning wine list and a menu of contemporary American classics with a twist including standout selections like tasty bruschetta and the shrimp BLT Panini (order it with the light and tangy orzo salad) make this kicked-back scene that much more satisfying.
